Jew-fish

The Jewfish is the largest member of the Grouper family, capable of reaching over 800 pounds.  Despite their enormous size, jewfish prefer to spend most of their time in the inshore waters.  These huge fish have a lifespan of 30 to 50 years!

The jewfish you see pictured above was photographed on Barracuda Alley, an artificial reef created as part of the South Carolina Artificial Reefs program.  The arrival of this 200 pound jewfish came during the reefs first year.
